She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Saint Xavier University in Chicago and went on to complete her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Throughout her career, Areta has been fortunate enough to work in a wide variety of mental health settings. Most notable in her training, was her time working as a therapy extern on the inpatient unit of a behavioral health hospital on Chicago’s west side. During this experience, she learned to work with some of the city’s most challenging psychiatric patients. Currently, Areta works as a crisis intervention counselor for a local non-for-profit organization, as well as a mental health therapist in a private practice clinic. She has experience in adolescent, adult and family counseling and is equipped to handle a plethora of disorders, including anxiety, depression, grief counseling, conflict resolution, and behavioral management. Although many of her clients have extensive trauma histories, Areta has always found her client base to be the most rewarding aspect of her career. She views mental health as a multi-faceted and complex issue, and is passionate about bringing mental health awareness to the forefront of her community. Areta values the importance of taking ownership over one’s life, and the courage required to implement healthy habits both in and outside of work. In her personal life, Areta strives to practice what she preaches by spending time on her own fitness goals, healthy nutrition, spending plenty of time outdoors and leading an overall active lifestyle.
